Visit to Korea in February 2010

In the beginning of February 2010 Dr Trikha and Mr Ferstl enjoyed the generous hospitality of Geumgang University to demonstrate the project database developed by the Viennese team. After having been cordially welcomed by Prof. Choi, Professor of Buddhist Studies at Geumgang University and director of the Nonsan project team, numerous working sessions with the colleagues from the Nonsan team took place, especially with Dr. Park and Dr. Shim, and also with Dr. Paek. The schedule mainly consisted in: a) discussion of and training into the entering process of the database for cataloguing the manuscripts of the Woolner collection and capturing the prosopographical data contained in the philosophical manuscripts and b) discussion of the following working steps of the project, especially evaluation of the manuscripts, which have to be digitized in order to complete the first stage of the project.

Having spent one week at Geumgang University the visit was concluded with two more working sessions at Dongguk University in Seoul, where beside Dr. Park and Dr. Shim also the student assistant Ms. Ryu was trained into the entering process of the database.

The project and the database were presented to members of Geumgang University on February 3rd, followed by a lively discussion of project (see press clipings).
