Gangadhar Kaviraj 1868

Ed. by Gangadhar Kaviraj (= Mc), Kolkata: Samvadajnanaratnakar Press 1868 (samvat 1925), Bengali script.

Duplicated in Devanagari script in 1868 (same title page).

Next edition(s), not designated as second edition(s): Saidabad: Pramadabhanjana Press 1878/79 (samvat 1935) in Bengali script, and 1884/85 [SE].

In the list of printed editions provided in no. 37, a first edition printed by the Pramadabhanjana Press (Dharani Dhar Ray Kaviraj) in Baherampur, Saidabad, is mentioned (no. 3 in the list). The first volume is said to be undated, the second volume dated to samvat 1971 corresponding to 1914, which seems wrong.

Remarks: Roth 1872: 441f. mentions the edition of 1868 as the first attempt to edit the text of the CS. It is the first edition of the eastern recension which may not have been completed, unless the edition of 1878/1879 (saṃvat 1935) continued and completed it. The editor most probably used V2b and V3b, or rather, prepared V2b and subsequently V3b for the constitution of his text. Neither of these editions contain a preface or introduction.
Meulenbeld does not list the 2nd edition of 1908.
